LPG, biodiesel and natural gas: Using alternative fuels

LPG, biodiesel, natural gas and AdBlue: Using alternative fuels

DKV is not limited to supplying mineral diesel fuel. Environmentally fuels are extremely important and are continuously gaining in significance. AdBlue for the reduction of nitrous oxides is also becoming more important.

Alternative Kraftstoffe tanken

Vegetable oil – a purely natural product

Pflanzenöl tanken

Vegetable oil can be used as an alternative to truck diesel, and should not be confused with Biodiesel. Vegetable oil is an entirely natural product, while biodiesel is manufactured in a chemical process using vegetable oil as the base.

Modern engines must first be converted for the use of vegetable oil.
Vegetable oil has a higher energy factor than biodiesel and generally does not lead to increased fuel consumption or loss of power. The price for a liter of vegetable oil fluctuates regionally and seasonally.

Environmental impact

A decisive advantage of vegetable oil is its low environmental impact:

Using natural gas (CNG & LNG) – cost effective and environmentally friendly fuelling

Natural gas is becoming increasingly popular in the automobile industry: Although the acquisition costs for a natural gas vehicle are higher, they are worth it in view of the lower operating cost and environmental impact.

Fuel costs are significantly lower than the price of diesel, and thanks to sustained tax incentives in many countries, fuelling with natural gas continues to remain inexpensive.

Environmental impact

Besides low fuel costs, natural gas vehicles go easy on the environment. The emission of sulphur dioxide, soot and other particles is almost entirely avoided. Thanks to this, the use of natural gas can prevent the formation of smog by up to 80%.

There are hardly any emissions when fueling. Fuelling does not take any longer than for a normal gasoline or diesel tank. Engine noise is significantly reduced, making natural gas vehicles much more quiet.

CNG (Compressed Natural Gas)

CNG is already available at more than 1,000 DKV fuel station.

LNG (Liquified Natural Gas)

Current overview for the Netherlands

You can find DKV fuel stations offering natural gas through DKV MAPS.

When fueling LNG, it is important to comply with the existing laws and regulations for the refueling process. These can be on a European or national level and vary depending on the operator. It is the responsibility of the driver to inform himself accordingly in advance.

LPG – clean and inexpensive fuel

Autogas (LPG) tanken

LPG – Liquified Petroleum Gas, also known as 'liquid gas", is a mixture of propane and butane and for quite some time has been the most widespread alternative fuel.

Although liquid gas consumption is higher than that of gasoline or diesel, the fuel is significantly less expensive, so that especially frequent drivers will benefit from the additional investment when purchasing a new car or performing a permanent conversion.

Environmental impact

LPG is environmentally friendly. Its combustion results in significantly less toxins than that of conventional fuels, leading to lower exhaust emissions.

LPG is available at an increasing numbers of DKV Stations, currently app. 11,000 in Europe.

You can find LPG fuel stations, or rather fuel stations at which you can fuel LPG, through DKV MAPS.

AdBlue – Alternative for the fulfillment of Euro 4 and 5

Using AdBlue actively reduces diesel exhaust and toxins.
AdBlue is an additive for modern diesel engines that is helping to fulfil the European emission standards in a cost-effective way.

It was developed by the European utility vehicle and mineral oil industry to reduce toxic nitrogen oxide and soot emissions.

Environmental impact

DKV Stations offering AdBlue can be found in DKV MAPS.
